D-Mart has taken a strategic approach to adopting solar energy with a 349 kW installation spread across their stores in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
D-Mart operates over 300 stores across India and has built a reputation for keeping costs low while maintaining quality. For a retailer that prioritises efficiency, this switch to solar stands as a testament to their cost-conscious approach.
For this solar installation, we used Sungrow and Sineng inverters to balance performance requirements across different locations. Similarly, they’ve chosen panels from both JA Solar and Waaree. For this project, we also used bifacial models to capture sunlight from both the sides to deliver better results than standard panels.

From this 349 kW installation, we can expect an annual generation of 4886 MWH. For a retail chain as huge as D-Mart, every unit of solar electricity means lower grid bills which is crucial when you’re running a business built on keeping operational costs as lean as possible.
The environmental impact of this project is quite susbtantial as well. The project eliminates 476 tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually, boosting D-Mart’s green credentials.
This approach to solar adoption makes perfect sense as the retail store is building experience with distributed systems across key markets rather than executing massive installations right in the beginning.
For other retail stores that are watching, this project is an example of how massive retail chains can adopt solar and go green without massive upfront commitments.
