BGS Institute of Technology (BGSIT), BG Nagar was established in 2005. The campus with 21 acres of land is unique in nature and located within a lush green environment. As the campus is having acres of land which gives high priority to green and clean energy and environment, they have adopted to take up the rooftop solar plant set up to improve the energy efficiency and also to reduce the operational cost.
The college has installed the rooftop solar power plant of 700 KW capacity using high quality 320 KWp poly-crystalline solar PV modules from one of India’s top module manufacturer RenewSys. A total of 2286 modules have been used. 14 nos. of 50 kW 3-phase delta inverters complete the technical setup for the solar power plant.
The “WebdynSun” data logger will help to monitor the real-time electricity production and remote maintenance of the plant. Aggregation of PV parameters at a single point, optimization of electricity production, and the proper operation and performance of the plant can be recorded or obtained from the readings of the data logger.
The college has opted for the OPEX model where the entire cost of Engineering, Procurement, and Commissioning of the plant is managed by U-Solar while they reap the benefits of clean and inexpensive solar power.
The solar power plant generation is approximately 11,00,000 units per annum offsetting the facility’s total energy consumption. The CO2 footprint has reduced significantly since the solar power plant has been commissioned in 2019. This project will help the institute to improve its environment-friendly nature.
