For Customers (Power Consumer Organizations)

U-Solar offers three models of solar adoption to Customers in the industrial, institutional and commercial sectors with heavy power loads.

In this model the Customer owns the solar power plant erected on the building roof or on the ground, and consumes the power generated. The Customer therefore also gets the depreciation benefits for the investment. At current levels of pricing, permissible depreciation and corporate tax, the capital investment can be recovered within four years, after which power is generated at relatively very low costs (for operations and maintenance) for several decades. After a period of about 25 years, the generation capacity may degrade by less than 20% compared to a new system. Also, any excess power generated during off days at the Customer’s facility, may be exported to the grid, depending on the prevalent state power distribution policy at the time. Even though the capital investment has to be made by the Customer, loans are now available from banks and financial institutions to help fund the project. The critical factors for success include technical design (considering the rooftop or ground space available, shadow area, orientation of the panels with the respect to sunlight availability through the day and the year), technology used (panels, inverters. components and mounting structures of excellent quality), project management and quality of execution – all of these are differentiating strengths of U-Solar. The Own & Operate Model gives excellent financial benefits in the long term, along with energy independence and reduction of carbon footprint.

In this model, the Customer leases out rooftop space or ground space, for a 3rd party investor to build the solar power plant on. The Customer signs a PPA (power purchase agreement) with the investor, to buy the power generated at a competitive rate, which enables the investor to recover the investment over a period of time, with added benefits of depreciation. Typically, Onsite  PPA periods are for 20 years, power plant sizes are at least 100KWp, and the Customer must have a favorable credit rating score. The Onsite PPA Model enables the Customer to start consuming clean energy at a competitive rate compared to conventional grid supply, and reduce their carbon footprint, all with no capital investment at all.

In this model the Customer enters into a PPA (power purchase agreement) with a solar power developer, to purchase power generated elsewhere, at a competitive rate. Typically, Offsite PPA periods are for 10 years, for power consumption levels of 3MWp, and the Customer must have a favorable credit rating score. The Offsite PPA Model enables the Customer to start consuming clean energy at a competitive rate compared to conventional grid supply, and reduce their carbon footprint, all with no capital investment, as well as with no space allocation.
